PixelSpeed checks every product image, fixes only the ones costing your visitors bandwidth, and tells you plainly when nothing needs fixing. It never touches your theme, and every original is backed up so any fix takes one click to undo.
What a visitor downloads when your theme shows it full size.
Same picture, no visible difference — 69% less to download. Measured on our test store, requested the way a browser does.
No install, no signup. The real dashboard with the real sizes our pipeline measured — including the images it decides to leave alone.
Press Run the audit to watch it work on a store like yours.
A demo of the real dashboard, using sizes our pipeline measured on a test store.
Shopify's CDN already resizes and converts images, so an honest app has to say where its fix actually lands. Measured on a 3000×3000, 1.5 MB upload, requested the way a browser does:
| What gets requested | Before | After | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full-size image — zoom, lightbox, social preview | 1,511 KB | 468 KB | −69% |
| Largest responsive step a theme requests | 423 KB | 372 KB | −12% |
| Small thumbnails | 34 KB | 36 KB | no gain |
That last row is why the app leaves lean images alone instead of re-compressing everything: on an already-optimised catalogue there is nothing to win, and we'd rather your audit say so.
Not our opinion — published figures, with the sources. Shopify's own analysis is the most relevant one, because it's measured on Shopify stores.
What we won't do is turn that into a promise about your revenue. Those studies measure speed against sales across thousands of stores; PixelSpeed measures bytes on your own images. Some of those bytes reach every visitor, some only the ones who open a photo full size, and on an already-lean catalogue there are none to remove — in which case the audit tells you so and you keep your $9.
Every fix is the image file itself, swapped in place through Shopify's own API. No code injected, no settings changed, nothing left behind when you uninstall.
The untouched file goes into write-once backup storage before a single byte changes. Don't like a result? Revert it from the dashboard and the exact original returns.
Images already in good shape are counted and left alone. You get a number you can check, not a percentage invented to look impressive.
Not "product photo 1" — a real description of what's in the frame, in your store's language, for search engines and screen readers. Anything you wrote is never overwritten.
Drag the sliders. The free plan audits everything, so you see your own numbers before paying anything.
No visible difference at normal viewing size — the fix removes stored data your visitors never see, it doesn't degrade the picture. Judge it yourself: the audit shows every before and after, and revert restores the exact original file.
It has no way to. PixelSpeed asks Shopify for permission to read products and update image files — nothing else. It never edits theme code, never injects scripts, never changes settings.
Everything stops immediately and your app data is deleted on Shopify's standard schedule. Images already fixed stay as they are — they're ordinary Shopify image files. Revert works while the app is installed, so if you want originals back, revert first and then uninstall.
Through Shopify, on your regular Shopify bill — we never see a card. The free plan is the full audit plus 10 fixes a month. Pro is $9/month for your whole catalogue and alt text on every image, and you can switch back to free inside the app at any time.
Run the free audit and find out — about two minutes, and it costs nothing. If your images are already lean the dashboard will say so, and you can uninstall with our blessing.
